I am trying to install GamesKnoppix on my hard desk. I used the command $ knoppix-installer, but gave me so many errors abiut files not found. I tried knx-hdinstall but told me command not found. So, I installed the CD on a patition using the commend $ knoppix tohd=/dev/hdax which was done successfully. Then I booted to that partition and did $ knoppix-installer again and it did work and got GamesKnoppix installed on another patition. However, I could not make it to boot because it did not have a vmlinuz. Does any body have an idea on how to get it booted? It hase two kernels, 2.4.28 and 2.6.10.
i'm not sure about 'Games - Knoppix', but to install regular knoppix 3.7:
boot as normal with the CD
CTRL-ALT-F1
to get to command line
(make sure you're root i.e root@knoppix# - if not, type 'su')
type knx2hdd
and it should kick off the hdd-install
after you get it loaded, it will have a new lilo.. where you can select which kernel you want.

I'm not positive exactly what sort of hard drive install you're trying to do, but I did see some references to "minimal necessary files" and "vmlinuz" on this page:
Thanks. I tried it on another PC and it did install this time but it complained that there is no valinuz again.
I am using lilo on MBR and a lilo floppy but both failed.

Thanks. I am looking in that to see how to fix it.
Ok. I checked the MD5 sum. There is a difference between the one on ISO and the one on the site. How I can fix it? The one on site is (GamesKnoppix-3.7-0.2-EN):
2dd9e89e152f10053aaeb332c0989f6f
but got a different one on ISO as shown by k3b.
A different MD5sum means something got corrupted somewhere.
If you still have the ISO file itself check it's MD5; if it matches the site then try burning another at a slower speed and with k3b's verify write on.
If you don't still have the file, you've got a bad burn and re-downloading is pretty much the only option as far as I know.
Thanks for reply. Actually the information I provided above is for the ISO not the CD. I still have it but it seems it is currupted. So, I downloaded the ISO again and got the right MD5 sum this time. I am now able to install it on my PC, but still comlaining of no Valinuz:
Fatal: open /boot/vmlinuz: No such file or directory
my /boot/vmlinuz file is a symlink to /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.27
Maybe newer versions of Knoppix don't set that link up. Note that the numbers after vmlinuz- are the kernel version. Yours may differ. Check /boot via the LiveCD.
Try using the root console on the LiveCD to chroot to your install and setup the link. The command is ln , but I forget the params. It's ln -s something something...

Thanks alot. You are right. THAT's the problem for the missing vmliuz. I remember reading that page, but that last line was not there. My ATI 9200SE card was slow and found the solution here:
