FTP Trouble.

I am currently using the Debian OS on my box. I am currently using the vsftpd FTP daemon. When i transfer large files, the transfer speed keeps slowing down and eventually sits at 0KB/s for about 5 seconds and then it says "Connection closed. Server timeout." Now after this, for about 30 seconds it doesn't allow me to connect to FTP or SSH. During this process i have other servers like ventrilo that keep on running fine though. Does anyone know the reason for this or how to fix it?

Yes it does, it turns out i was using vsftp, which is only for the sftp client. I was trying to use other clients which was causing this problem, so i installed a new daemon, and it fixed the problem.
