From Fedora to Debian (sarge)

hey there all,
i've just come back to debian and it's the first time i've used it in about 4 years.
for the most part, i'm happy so far (apt is waaaaay faster than rpm-apt or yum) and the system is faster as a whole.
one disappointment is the font rendering though. I saved my fedora /etc/fonts/ files as i liked the setup i had on fedora (fonts were nice throughout the desktop) - but putting them into /etc/fonts on sarge doesnt seem to improve the rendering.
In GDM for example, fonts are anti-aliased, but the rendering is thick in some parts of the char, and thin in others - it just looks uneven.

another font related problem it font availability. i installed the bitstream vera fontset and would like all X apps (well, fontconfig based ones) to use them. however, gnome2 can see the fonts and i've set gnome to use them, but the Epiphany/Firebird browsers cant see the fonts.

(also, even though gnome2 uses the fonts, i'm still not satisfied with the rendering in the desktop).

any help with these points would be fantastic!
thanks for reading,
cheers,
paul.

yes i had the same problem ,

1 solution : install xfstt , put ttf's on /usr/share/fonts/truetype

2 solution - it worked with me some times , install xlibrender-dev ...
