Oh wow, that's so sad
He had so much good advise mixed in with his "controversy/flame war"

If that is true, that really sucks. Man, he got my goat a few times at first, but then when I realized I actually agreed with him more and more as I gained experience, I started to enjoy his posts. BTW, he was responsible for my switch to aptitude!

I still use apt because it is better. We got into a lot of arguments about that.

Created in 2003. Your not kidding.

MeanDean, it's good to see from you again. There was a 4 page thread over there asking about you.

On another note, I keep waiting for some clueless person to break into this thread with a help me question.

Usually there is person with 1 post history that will pop in out of nowhere to ask where is firefox

Good to see you. I had to re-appear yet again, just too many people that feel like family members over there. Actually I think they talked more about rickh being gone. I hope that arrogant elitist prick is still alive and kicking, if not then he will be missed.....by me at least!

I asked Jeroen for a backup/archive of the forums if they aren't going to be resurrected and I was told by him that "they will return soon."

While the forums are down, feel free to open threads and provide help here. All of our distro sub-forums are communities in themselves, so your technical and speculative questions and answers are welcome here. And if you just want to chat about general stuff, well, the General forum is the place to be. No need to restrict yourselves to this one thread!

Sorry but RDUs like to beat a thread to death and waaaay beyond...no need to start anew when you can just continue on and on and on...

Cool! Someone start a apt-get vs aptitude thread to get things rolling and make it feel like home. Even better, just infect every thread with the apt vs aptitude flame war...

I nearly always use apt-get, except for when I'm browsing through Synaptic looking for interesting odds'n'sods to install. If aptitude is so superior, why doesn't Debian dump apt-get?
