Font Server

I just realized my X server is not using the X Font Server (XFS)
My xorg.conf contains only this (no reference to unix socket 7100, opened by XFS):
Code:
Section "Files"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi"
        FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi"
        # path to defoma fonts
        FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType"
EndSection
And XFS is not started:
netstat -an | grep 7100
leads to nothing

What are you using?
Any changes / advantages with one of both method?

I'm using a default install of etch transformed in lenny/sid

XFS is not really needed anymore and has not been for awhile the only time you ever really needed it was when you were on a remote machine with no local fonts installed this is not the case on most installs today.

Thank you HappyTux

I agree with your argument

Fedora Core 7 is still using XFS on default install.

XFS isnt a must, but it is better.with ttf fonts,i have xfstt also installed.nothing wrong.
with xfs and xfstt,u just need to add below lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf section "Files"
Code:

FontPath "unix/:7100"
FontPath "unix/:7101"

Apart from the reason mentionned by HappyTux, I'm wondering why "it's better"

Yeah I had these two installed.
Now after making an install from scratch of etch, I don't have them and can't see any difference.
