flash sound
 

I'm seeming to have some arts sound problems. First of all kde has no sound, though all my alsa output things work great. To get sound in unreal tournament 2004 i have to killall artsd first and the most annoying problem. When i view a flash animation it seems to pause for half a second and then continue off sync (the sound). What can i do besides wait for flash version 8.0? Isn't there some way to set the wrapper so i can get flash working fine? In one of my earlier setups on my same machine i got it working great, but now no matter what flash package i install i can't get it working. Thanks.

I'm not sure about flash, but I use Alsa and dmix to mix sounds and that works (also with flash). Do you use asound.rc or /etc/asound.conf to mix sound?

i use a .asoundrc and it works fine. The only problems i get i think are artsd related because artsd SUCKS while alsa is great. I get no sound in kde at all, delayed sound in flash and sometimes i get good sound, sometimes i don't with xmms, but i always get good sound with ut2004 (if i do killall artsd) and all the other games (supertux is kickass). I used to have sound delayed with zsnes, but i swapped my libsdl1.debian.alsa for libsdl1.debian.all and i got it working. If there is a way to completely annihilate artsd without erasing kde i'd be much happier. I've been thinking on switching to another desktop manager. I've always wanted to use enlightenment but i've had problems setting it up (troubles accessing menus, icons get to big and the menu closes), but that uses esound and that will be more of the same shit. Of course the problem could be elsewhere.

Just disable the KDE Sound System from the Control Center.

I have never had any use for artsd either. I don't really understand why KDE uses this. Other KDE sound deamon types are equally unusable imo. Alsa and Oss handle sound much better on there own.

yeah, i don't know why kde doesn't switch to alsa, maybe they don't want to loose the work they've done on artsd? It'd make our set ups much easier, because when it comes to choosing kde sounds or alsa, it's a no-brainer. Alsa, works with games, general apps (not kde-specific), sdl, xmms... artsd works with, umm, well, artsd? I wonder if there is this problem with esound also (i'm trying to get used to the enlightenment), haven't tried sound out yet, but i think the problem will be there, only alsa and oss work well together.

EDIT: i seem to have lost sound in flash, could flash be artsd dependent? Isn't there a way to change what sound it uses? I remember doing that a while back, but after searching i haven't found anything that can help me. I believe it uses the term "daemon wrapper" or something like that and you can choose between artsd, esound, none and a few others. You know where it could be?
