Flash player not working in IceWeasel browser on fresh Debian 8.0 install

Greetings,
I just installed Debian 8.0 on my old laptop for the first time. I tried to use the Flash video player embedded in the IceWeasel browser for viewing a video/audio stream on the internet. It doesn't work. When I click on the window where the video is supposed to play, I get an error message that reads "video format or MIME type is not supported".
I think I either need to update my Flash player to the latest version *OR* install the correct video Codec plug-in to get it to work, or perhaps both (?,!). Being a newbie to Debian, I am not sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You need to add non-free to your /etc/apt/sources.list & install flashplugin-nonfree

... how do I edit/modify my /etc/apt/sources.list and then install flashplugin-nonfree?

Being a new user, I'm not used to using the 'terminal/command line' and need to do it through a graphical user interface in the GNOME desktop environment that I'm using.

Add "non-free" (without the quotation marks) to the repository lines (the lines starting with "deb") immediately after the word "main"
https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList#Component

EDIT: To edit the file, run this command from a terminal window:
Code:
su -c 'nano /etc/apt/sources.list'
Enter the root password when prompted (if you did not set this, use `sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list` and your user password instead), edit the file and press <Ctrl>+x then "y" then <Return> to save the file.

EDIT2: If `nano` is "not found", run this command:
Code:
su -c 'apt-get install nano'
Again, enter the root password or use `sudo apt-get install nano` and your user password if you did not set a root password during the installation procedure.

Then update the APT database and install & update FlashPlayer:
Code:
# apt-get update
# apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
# update-flashplugin-nonfree --install
https://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer

Don't forget to comment out the cdrom line with #
To update you'll have to do it manually, as this doesn't work the link will be dead
