Flash/gnash installing snafu caused system problems

In my install of debian 4.0 x64 on athlon 64x2:
I tried to install gnash but it wants swfmill which when trying to install that wants libxml-2.0 libxml is on my system but I can't get swfmill to see it.
I was able to install nspluginwrapper by this http://www.dipconsultants.com/debian/ how-to and it worked after I created a "plugins" folder in my .mozilla file. Well by worked I mean the final command finished without any errors but I still can't get flash to work. I don't care about flash now perhaps at some point I'll try gnash again.
However something is screwed up on my system now because evolution doesn't work anymore and it worked before all this. I re-installed evolution with synaptic but the same behavior continues.
When I try to start evolution from the terminal this is the only output
Quote:
evolution
CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...
terminal just hangs there i.e never returns to a prompt, and of course starting evolution from gui/menu fails with no response.
Does anyone have an idea on this? Thanks
