Fixing my screen resolution

Hi, recently I've updated from etch to lenny, my screen resolution is too big -640x700 or something- and I can't see the gnome toolbar, my questions are:

1.what is the command that display the applet that helps me to adjust the screen resolution?

2. is there a command to display the gnome main menu bar?

Regards

Don't know for gui but you could try typing
xrandr

Should display available detected modes

So does the screen only show a small portion of hte desktop ? If you move the mouse off the edge of the screen does the visible portion of the screen scroll ?

Code:

--------------|------------------
|            |                  |
|  visible  |                  |
|  screen    |                  |
|            |                  |
|            |                  |
---------------                  |
|                                |
|                                |
|        Desktop Size            |
|                                |
|                                |
---------------------------------|

You can alter the resolution using

CTRL_ALT_+
CTRL_ALT_-

If the issue above is what you are describing..

Thanks for your advice, in fact, CTRL+ALT+- had worked for me; the resolution was to high

You can also edit the monitor section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf with options:

HorizSync "horizontal sync frequency range of monitor"
VertRefresh "vertical refresh range of monitor"

If you reboot the system and the resolution reverts to the issue you describe above then some editing of the xorg.conf file is definitely needed.
