first boot problem

After some heavy problems I had to re-install my system. Now, my system doesn't get through the first reboot. I don't get back in dbootstrap

Everything seems ok untill I enter run-level 2. De system log daemon gets started. Then PCMCIA services get started, which doesn't since I have none. I know this will be removed in after-boot steps of dbootstrap, so I don't believe that's a huge problem. Then inetd is started. Then something calls /sbin/termwrap which doesn't exists on my system. INIT starts spawning, that's it.

Re-installing brings back this error over and over. Since terminal 2 and 3 are available, I used apt-get one of them to install base-config which contains the file /usr/sbin/termwrap. I copied termwrap to /usr/sbin and hoped to get the system working. Now, my system starts dpkg-reconfigur many times on tty1. I've also seen instances of sh and stty on tty1.

I'm trying to install the potato release, since I can't read root.bin from woody. This also means that the base2_2.tgz isn't available at official debian servers. Help on either this reboot problem or the root.bin problem of the woody install is welcome.

I hope someone knows what to do.

Does anyone of you know if I can install woody using root.bin from potato? That would be a fast 'n dirty way to solve my problem.

In other words, is the root filesystem of debian version specific?

That's the method which fails every time because of some problems with termwrap, probably due to some problems with the base2_2.tgz.

I was thinking about using:

the woody rescue floppy
the potato root floppy
the woody driver floppies
the woody base.tgz by network

Is this possible?
