Firefox and Konqueror trouble
 

Hello,

I am having trouble with Firefox.

I'm using Sarge.

Firefox was working great.

Here's what I did to break it. I think?

I have my hard drive partitioned into three partitions. Approx sizes:

/ 7G
/Home 140G
/swap 256Meg

The first time I used Kino as root, it filled my / to 100%. I didn't even know until I rebooted. My xserver wouldn't start and my /home was gone. Didn't even see it, /dev/hdb2, by running dmesg. I thought I was back to Windows for a minute. Then I did a df and figured out that space may be a problem. / was 100% used (full).

Next I deleted the video captures and rebooted. Xserver was working again and I could see my /home directory again.

Now when I tried to start firefox it died with an error. Sorry, don't remember which one. I clicked on my firefox button about 30-40 times, I am NOT a patient person. Then a box came up asking which profile to use. Actually about 20 boxes came up. The only problem is there were no profiles listed. I tried to create a new profile but it couldn't write the file.

When I use Konqueror I get many error boxes. each saying DCOP communications error. Make sure dcopserver is running.

Is it possible Debian changed my permissions and that's what's causing all these problems?

Funny, my Win98 died with a windows protection error. I've been playing with Linux for a while and said the heck with it, it's time to change. Now Linux doesn't want to work.

My MB is an ECS KT-600A
512 Meg RAM
160 G Seagate HD
Firewire is from an add in card ala newegg.

Any help or clues will be greatly appreciated.

I just bought netflix for win98. I need a replacement for netflix, to get a scanner working and figure out how to install cvs on Debian. Then I'll be windows free...........

wel really can't help get firefox runnign if you can't tell us what happens to firefox, exact errors etc... essentially you seem to have screwed up somethign to lose diskspace, so ensure that EVERY partition has a suitable amount of free space on it. once that's done, i'd also suggest deleting ~/.mozilla and restarting firefox. without any of your own user data, there shouldn't really be anythign left to not work.

When starting with the button, it gives no errors that I could see. Just kept trying to get me to create a new profile. Now it would gibe me an error when I tried that.

Anyway I deleted .mozilla and it started right up. Thanks. Now to copy my bookmarks.

For some time firefox was not storing the history correctly. I seemed like the history filled up and couldn't empty itself to store the new history. It had plenty of space at the time, at least I thought it did.

Clearing freespace and deleting the folder worked great.

I can't believe how fast dv filled my hard drive up. Time to burn some dvd backups.

well about your firefox problem I did not get it could you be more specific, thanks.
About the disk space if you don't have a /var partition it is probably that and something else maybe... 7G seems a lot to fill to me... anyway check in /var for the size of your log and even maybe the kernel log ...

I ran Kino as root and filled the 7 Gig / (root which holds the /var) with video.

I have three partitions.

/
/home
/swap

My fault 100%.
