file system messed up, help!
I am using Sarge and recently, I found most of my folders are messed up with foo.cmeta, foo.ibex.index, files, where foo is the name of each normal file in the folder. They were created by something I have no knowledge of and all at the same time.

What could possibly cause this? Is it serious? What are these files for? Can I safely delete them? How would I stop getting these in future if they are confirmed useless?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

forgot to mention, the problem only exists in my $HOME

they sound like mail box data files, create a temp directory and move them all in there reboot, if everything works fine delete them else copy them back.
What mail services are you running?
what does a ls -al give you (users/permissions)?

Thanks a lot. I will give it a try.
