External Enclosure Issues

I've bought a few external exclosures and 2TB drivers from my local CompUSA and they don't seem to play nice with squeeze 64bit (on Dell Server R710). They seem to randomly unmount with I/O errors. I've tested the drives and I'm convinced they are okay and I'm guessing it's the controllers in the cheap enclosure but I'm not an expert. My logs are full of

EXT3-fs error (device sdc1): ext3_get_inode_loc: unable to read inode block - inode=17375514, block=69500947
But when I powercycle the drive in question and run SMART commands on the drive everything checks out fine. The drive will run perfectly for a while. Even after transfering 100s of gigs to it. I'll rsync to it every night and in the morning I'm having to check if i'm getting I/O errors and if soo.. umount / remount and I'm back in business.

Can someone recommend an enclosure they prefer. I'm sick of baby sitting these drives. Thanks.

Have you tried running fsck on the filesystem?
Experienced something like this a while ago, the hdd ended up dead after endless of fsck errors. Cant recall any SMART errors at first, but eventually they popped up.
