Question Exim4 Configuration on Etch/Testing

Hey everyone,

I'm running Debian Etch/Testing, updated via apt on a daily basis. I would like to set up Exim4 MTA on it. I would like to be able to send/receive mail locally between user accounts (For cron, scripts, etc) and I would like to be able to send mail over the internet (Have my router send logs via SMTP to my gmail account, phpbb emails, etc). The problem is, I'm a bit of a mail n00b. It's one type of server I haven't used previously.

I have installed exim4-daemon-light (I'm not sure if I need daemon-light or daemon-heavy; I don't know the differences) and ran dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. I set it up with the "internet" mail configuration. I also set up exim4 to use one file for the config (As opposed to split the config up among many files).

I have tested sending a manual email to gmail, and it worked perfectly.

Now I would like to enable authentication for SMTP and explicitly define which IP addresses can send mail. All I need to send mail currently would be localhost (HTTPd and MTAd on the same box)and my router ( How would I go about doing this?

Many thanks,
