Exim4 Configuration

Hi all,

I installed exim4 on my machine. In the past I can use this to send email. But now I can't use it to send email anymore. I use KMail to send email, but it never being sent, and no error message from KMail or from mail daemon. I've tried to configure it using base-config, but I really2 confuse with it. Can anyone help me how to configure exim4, using base-config or manually configure the configuration file? Thanks for any reply

Do you get any mails returned from the mail system? How do you connect to internet?

I guess you have a home computer without any public name. In that case you have to give 'mail name' to your machine, it should be the SMTP server of your internet provider. Some sites require you to specify 'primary_hostname'. I put the same mailserver name at that place and it works. It was quite a big pain for me to get it working, depending on the configuration mails either vanished or were returned with an error message.

If this is your problem too, check the following. I don't remember if 'readhost' is necessary, in my case I am reading my mails on that machine.

My exim config file:
Code:
siim@tibu:/etc/exim4$ cat /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf
# /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf
#
# Edit this file and /etc/mailname by hand and execute update-exim4.conf
# yourself or use 'dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config'

dc_eximconfig_configtype='internet'
dc_other_hostnames=''
dc_local_interfaces='127.0.0.1'
dc_readhost='xxx.yyy.ee'
dc_relay_domains=''
dc_minimaldns='false'
dc_relay_nets=''
dc_smarthost='mail.neti.ee'

CFILEMODE='644'
dc_use_split_config='false'
dc_hide_mailname='false'
and the main config template:

Code:
siim@tibu:/etc/exim4$ head -15 exim4.conf.template
#####################################################
### main/01_exim4-config_listmacrosdefs
#####################################################

######################################################################
# Runtime configuration file for Exim #
######################################################################

primary_hostname = mail.neti.ee

######################################################################
#                    MAIN CONFIGURATION SETTINGS                     #
######################################################################

# Just for reference and scripts, on debian, the main binary is
'mail.neti.ee' is a mail server of Estonian Telecom.

Perhaps it helps.
