Exim4 AUTH configuration

I need some pointers from someone more experienced than I am about configuring exim4 auth. I installed exim4-heavy by apt-get and it installed courier along with it. Everything is working fine, except I cannot send emails from remote login. I've read all the documentation, and I can see that what needs to be done is the uncommenting of some lines of code in the /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template file. I want to do this as simply as possible to get it working for my users. At some point in the not so distant future I will redo it to have it run securely over the SSL, but for now I just need to get it working.

Is it correct that I need to uncomment some lines in /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template? Any suggestions as to which ones would be appreciated.
