Etch 4.0 stable - python 2.5 and python-mysqldb?

Hi,

I'm a relative newcomer to Debian. I've been mainly using SuSE/openSuSE and Fedora/CentOS for the past 8 years or so. Recently I started work on a little appliance project that's going to be running on a pretty old (Pentium II, 400MHz, 192MB RAM) laptop, and chose Debian given its reputation for stability and efficiency.

I did a lot of coding for the project already, using a spare desktop running OpenSuSE as a test platform. Most of my code is in Python, and written for Python 2.5. However, I've been unable to find a python-mysqldb package for Etch that works with Python2.5. Backports doesn't seem to have anything, either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason

Well, Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 has python 2.5 as default,
and the matching python-mysqldb is here :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/python/python-mysqldb
If the package doesn't fit it's fairly easy to setup from source.
Look to the right at the site, very small letters: Download Source Package
python-mysqldb_1.2.2.orig.tar.gz
python-mysqldb_1.2.2-3ubuntu1.diff.gz
If you want to apply the patch :
mv MySQL-python-1.2.2 python-mysqldb-1.2.2
patch -p0 < python-mysqldb_1.2.2-3ubuntu1.diff
And then # python setup.py install
(Or build a Debian package)
You will need : libmysqlclient(15)-dev
