Etch [testing] problem.

Okay.. I run Debian Sarge. A friend of mine did also... and everything was smooth runnings, just as it is for me right now.

Now, he moved to Etch.. and is having a problem with say... apt-get install <insertpackagenamehere>

he gets the following: apt-get update/install error

Or, if you dont want to click the link to read it.. read here.

Setting up at (3.1.9) ...
Starting deferred execution scheduler: atdinvoke-rc.d: initscript atd, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing at (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
at
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Any help appreciated. (yes, i've googled/read through some of the BTS) ..nothing yet.

Have you tried removing the at package with --purge option and then reinstalling it?

Like this:

$ su
# apt-get --purge remove at
# apt-get install at

What the heck is "Starting deferred execution scheduler"?

Almost looks like he has APT set to download the package and install it later. Maybe using cron-apt.

Try using aptitude to purge the package then reinstall it.
