Error when starting Apache undefined symbol: __db_ndbm_fetch_4002

Just having some problems with Apache at the moment I am just following the Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO at

delouw.ch/linux/Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO/html/install.html

and just noticed that I need Apache for the web front end.

I installed Apache with Apt-get but ran in to problems

apt-get --purge remove apache

apt-get install apache

Selecting previously deselected package apache.
(Reading database ... 53636 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking apache (from .../apache_1.3.31-6_i386.deb) ...
Setting up apache (1.3.31-6) ...

Creating config file /etc/apache/httpd.conf with new version

Creating config file /etc/apache/srm.conf with new version

Creating config file /etc/apache/access.conf with new version

Creating config file /etc/apache/modules.conf with new version
Configuration syntax error detected. Not reloading.

Syntax error on line 18 of /etc/apache/modules.conf:
Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_rewrite.so into server: /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_rewrite.so: undefined symbol: __db_ndbm_f
etch_4002
invoke-rc.d: initscript apache, action "start" failed.

root@fstats:/# etc/init.d/apache restart
Configuration syntax error detected. Not reloading.

I ran the remove so i could run copy and paste the full output to screen but but got this error even after the first install.

runing /usr/sbin/apache-modconf apache from a remote SHH shell gives nothing (logged in as root)

I think it must have some to do with the Berkeley DB install but what I don't know... I have just tried recompiling it with out any luck.

root@fstats:/tmp/db-4.2.52/build_unix# ../dist/configure --prefix=/usr/local/bdb

make
make install

echo /usr/local/bdb/lib >> /etc/ld.so.conf
ldconfig

I am stumped on this should i maybe look to compile Apache by hand any ideas would be great as I am hitting my head maybe I should post this to another one of the forums as it is not directly related to Debian.

May be a Mod can move it to the software area.
