There is no package to install Google Earth. It's a separate installable file and you can find it here: http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html Follow the instructions given, but first: are you sure your laptop meets the minimum requirements Google has put down? Keep in mind that the videocard of your machine is unlikely to qualify for these requirements as these devices are usually not 3D capable...

For some reason you may have damaged an archive and/or lock file. You may try to remove the file /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin and recreate it with
Code:
sudo rm -r /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin
sudo apt-get keep-all
You may also look at the /var/lib/dpkg directory, that may be compromised as well.

NOTE!! I never tried this, so it's really on your own risk. As an alternative I suggest re-installing Ubuntu.

Try with "sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock"
Also make sure you don't have another package manager running, like running a dpkg command with synaptics open.

You might ask this thread to be moved to the Ubuntu forum section as this is Debian.

Btw, there is the googleearth-package which helps build a debian package.
