dpkg -i .deb and apt-get, ok to mix?

Hi,

I have firefox 1.0.6, but I downloaded the .deb for 1.0.7 and can install it through dpkg. What I want to know is, will there be any incompatibilities between the firefox for apt-get and dpkg. Is it okay to do this?

Thank you.

i think apt-get is a front-end to dpkg. Almost everybody mix it, because what do you do if the package you need isn't in a debian repository :-)
I downloaded a deb of firefox 1.0.6 when i had 1.0.X. I had to install other packages(new dependencies) but it wasn't lots of hassles apt-get'ing it or getting them from unstable repositories.
