dpkg error
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has seen following error messages when trying to install a package using apt-get? (Reading database ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/synergy_1.3.1-2_i386.deb (--unpack): files list file for package `passwd' is missing final newline E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) For some reason I keep on getting the above error message no matter what package i try to install. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance DF |
Would you please post your sources.list?

What verison of Debian are you using? At the top of your sources.list it makes me think Woody; but yo're getting packages for unstable (Sid), why? WHy not pull packages for Woody? I'll be one of the first to tell you I'm new at this and that might not be an issue but it seems that way to me.

I just google'd the last line in your error message; here's the link: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=171107
Based on that and my first thought my advice would be change around your sources.list to point to the Woody package, maybe stable packages or upgrade your OS. I"m running Etch on my laptop and 2 servers with no problems for my business. |
All of his woody sources are commented out. So is the last one, the monash.edu. The only 2 sources he has working are:
deb http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/debian testing main deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main Those lines are from the woody cdrom install, which as his sources state, goes back to 2002. Commented out, they only cause a problem to human readers. Good thing our computers are more careful than we are! Peace, JimBass |
Yes I was running Woody and this machine was installed some years back. I upgraded from Woody sometime back as well. As JimBass mentioned those woody source lines are commented out. I have been using testing updates for sometime with no issues. Only very recently i came across this issue.
If anyone has seen this error please drop a line, in the meantime if I find any solution i'll post it here. Thanks again for ur time. |
