dpkg --configure -a process taking too much time

Sir while installing packages using synaptic it asked resolvconf has been removed need system reboot and then system restarted unexpectedly and after restarting I am unable to boot and it is showing error message as no device configured for root. So I have entered into rescue mode using wheezy installation dvd and issued the command dpkg --configure -a and after some time it is showing that starting uim.el helper agent and the process is struck upto two hours.

Please help me to come out of this problem I mean to stop the above process.

Regards,
Rupesh.

Please don't create a second user ID, and again, there are NOT JUST SIRS on this site.

And if you're having problems with your boot device, why would you try to re-configure packages, instead of addressing a boot problem? You don't say why the system restarted, or what message(s) it gave you when it was booting, what kind of hardware you're using, disk configuration, etc. Reboot the system, and if the system tells you you've got errors, then run the fsck command it gives you to repair them. After you're booted, THEN try to repair packages.
