I am planed to buy a new PC, nowadays all new PC have the SATA interface, I want to ask, do Debian 3.0 or 3.1 can install on a SATA HDD? If not, can anyone tell me which Dist. can install the Linux in STAT
I haven't tried it myself, but it appears that it's possible to have sata whithout any problem with the libsata library... Is it just a question or does a guy told you that it's impossible to have SATA on Debian ?
Hi, I'm trying to install a Debian on PC with only a SATA HD, but the HD is not recognized. How to load the controler (southbridge & intel88E8053 ICH5R ? integrated to the Asus P5GCD motherboard) drivers during the install ? Fyi, I have the same kind of problems with the LAN drivers (Marvell 88E8053 integrated to the Asus P5GCD motherboard)
Thanks

Rep:
Works fine with sata,Im useing 4 raptors in raid 5 cfg on debian-kanotix.
my server is debian with sata.
May want to load a live debian cd...one that recognises all or the most of your hardware and see what modules it loaded and what not.
You can use that as a map of what you need to install or just use the debian based live cd of your choice to do a debian install.
i have compiled my kernel(2.6.10) a few weeks ago and there was(90% as i remenber,i may be wrong) an option about suporting SATA so there are 2 things that u cand do:
1.compile the kernel (there are many articles teaching this )
2.download the module for SATA(i dont know if this module exists)
i got a seagate 120gb s-ata disk drive, i got debian sarge on it installed. just boot the cd, and type linux26, press enter and it will boot kernel 2.6.x which supports s-ata so the installer will recognize your drive
good luck
