Distorted colors in X

Hello,

I have installed Debian Sarge, 2.4.27-2-686 on a system with an ABit IS7-V2 motherboard. I am trying to configure X for use with a Chaintech Volari V3 AGP card and a Hyundai ImageQuest L70N monitor but am having problems in X with the colors. They are all distorted and reversed or flipped.

I have tried just about every configuration I can think of using the vesa driver at different resolutions. Vesa was the only one I could get to load a screen for. As a side note, the Debian logo and terminal text on startup in are crystal clear, but as soon as KDE or Gnome launch, all the colors are strange and everything's fuzzy and text is very difficult to read.

I can give more information if necessary, can anyone point me in the right direction here? I'm kind of new to this level of configuration and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Some of the output of dmesg looks suspicious but I don't know what to do to fix it. I will post it in the next message if anyone is willing to give me a hand.

I did a search on Google and found some related items but I'm still not sure what steps to take to get the video to work right. I also looked through some information on XFree86 but it is just such a complex thing that I really don't even know where to start. I have posted on the hardware forum of this site but have gotten no response and I thought I would try here too. Am I asking in the right place?
