I'm using Jessie, AMD-64 with balsa as my email client. No problem for more than a year. This morning all the messages in the inbox disappeared if they had been received in the previous month. IOW, all messages from May 10 through June 10 have disappeared. They are not in the trash folder. Where might they be, and can they be recovered? Thanks.
are you using IMAP?
in that case it is more likely that the files are still on the server, or, if they have really disappeared, they also disappeared from the server.
have you looked in various folders, maybe there's an archive for all messages.
or maybe the email client decided it's time to archive messages. just look through the preferences dialog if an option like that is active.
Thanks for the reply. I'm using POP and my preferences are set to delete mail from the server when I retrieve it so they are are gone from the server. The missing messages are not in any other folder. I can access the "inbox" via mutt and confirm that the messages are truly gone. I don't know of an archive. If there is and archive, not sure why it left the messages older than May 10, 2017. Only messages dated May 10 through June 10 disappeared. Thanks again.
