Difficulty upgrading Debian stable

I am trying to upgrade a Debian Stable installation which has not been upgraded for last 4 months but is otherwise working well (I am writing from there only). The update process needs to download 625 mb of which only 12.2 mb remains to be downloaded. But the process is getting stuck while downloading libwebkitgtk-3.0-0, which it cannot download despite multiple attempts.

Where is the problem and how can I solve this? Thanks for your help.

Are you using apt-get or Synaptic?
Could you post your actual error?
If you are using Synaptic, I would check your repositories (Settings>Repositories)and maybe add another repo for libwebkit

try to uninstall that.
it will most likely also want to uninstall some web browser that also depends on it.
can you be without that during the upgrade process?

i don't have a full explanation, but i have been told that something is very wrong with webkit under debian - i know, it's vague. i'd go into more detail if i remembered it.
