[SOLVED] desktop confusion in debian 8.3

just installed debian 8.3.

in software install screen I selected both gnome & xfce, thinking I could switch between them.

it later asked which to use for default & I said gnome.

I've since determined the desktop being used is xfce & am unable to find out how to switch between gnome & xfce.

I'm thinking I should be presented with a choice at login but nogo.

maybe I'm confusing desktop & window manager. I'm seeing gnome directories in the file manager & xfce is all over the menus. Any ideas?

If you're using GDM (default in debian), their's a small (round) icon left from your login area.
Just click on it and select whatever DE or WM you like.

its a little tricky but i got it finally. it comes up with only my name & i have to ignore that & click 'not listed' b4 i see the little icon, then i can enter uname & choose desktop & enter pw.
