dell dimension 2650 PCI card issues

Does anyone have any experiance with a dell dimension 2650 and a PCI add on card?

I'm running the latest bios, I don't know much about CLI text editors, but I have a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT I Get kernel Panic's and unable to start X servers.

Prior to this, I would boot SimplyMepis and copy the Xfreeconfig-4 from there into the etc/X11 Directory.

but with ANY Card in the PCI slot, the system just fails all over the place.

I dropped a 16 meg Vanta card and a 32 meg ATI all in Wonder and it just Panics and fails to start.

but remove that PCI card, and everything moves smooth as butter, I don't know what to say.

Any Advice and assistance would be greatly apreciative, I used the Sarge installer with a 2.4.x kernel (2.6 won't completely install with a PCI card in.

The computer previously ran XP Pro just fine.

Did you check the Dell config and disable any ports or devices that you aren't using or never plan on using?

Is this card for a mult-head setup? Why do I ask? Because the onboard controller... what happened to it?

I disabled the Serial and LP1 Ports leaving the Onboard sound, Ethernet and USB enabled,

The onboard video has 2 settings "Onboard or AUTO"

Setting it to auto boots with the PCI card... which doesn't seem to work.

It does not appear to be a debian issue, Suse failed with a cannot execute /sbin/mingetty on first boot after the inittial configuration.

Tested Windows XP, it worked flawless

this sucks, I got this so I could have a debian server
