defaults sarge alsa modules messed up


trying to run alsaconf
the sound card is detected but there is a huge mess after it and alsamixer can't find the card

Is the kernel version of the alsa modules the one that you were running when you tried insmodding the modules ?, ie is the output of uname -r 2.4.27-1-386 ?
had you already installed & configured OSS first or just alsa 'cos they can argue with each other though I don't know if that would cause undefined symbol errors

Did you install the other alsa packages - alsa-base & alsa-utils & libasound2? also the config file ~/.asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf - details are to be found on the alsa site - the wiki there might be worth a look
