Default Debian Install installs Gnome and KDE

why does the default debian install(sarge), when you choose desktop system, install both Gnome and KDE? Do people really use both? What's the point?

Hi,
If you choose a net install, it does not. I don't have gnome on my system because personally I don't like it,

but I have KDE (3.3.2) Fluxbox (love it !!) and Xfce4 (love it much, too). Just get rid of one of the 2 if you

don't like either one or the other...

Cheers

P.S
Netinstall : use "aptitude" : a really useful tool : you can choose any packages you want to d/load / install

I don't think it is because people use both, but because people use applications from both, like k3b is an essential tool many people use from KDE and the Gimp is an essential tool for many people from Gnome. I know you don't need the whole desktop environment to install these, but you do need parts of it. I think providing both gives the chance to install a selection of Gnome and KDE applications and the user can select which desktop environment to use them in.
