Hi all,
am a newbie. This is the first time Iam going to set up Debian. Iam going to do it on a SATA hard drive. Iam not sure if release 3 supports SATA harddrives. Please help me go about this. Should I go in for a different release?
Many Thanks,
Sorry if this is a very stupid question
I've got sata as well, and when I tried to install stable debian on it the installer wouldn't run properly. So I downloaded an unofficial install cd, with etch on it, and now it runs just fine.
You can find a bunch of cd's here:
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
This depends on how SATA is implemented on your computer (external card, integrated on the mobo, what chipset, etc.)
I installed Sarge with zero problems on my work computer with a SATA drive. But Sarge wouldn't recognize my SATA drive at home (home uses a nForce3 250Gb chipset). I had to use a newer kernel at home to recognize my SATA.
