Debian with kernel 2.6.9 preinstalled?

Is there a Debian with Kernel 2.6.9 preinstalled or that I can select to install it during the setup? I am using the netinstall Debian Sarge that has a 2.4 Kernel, I tried install Kernel 2.6.9 and I get
Code:

pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 426: cannot open dev /console: No such file
Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!

Can anyone help me find a 2.6 Kernel Debian or solve the problem.

the debian pre=installed 2.6.9 kernel is not in the sarge release....it is still only in sid (unstable)
if you wish to use this kernel....you must first change your apt-get repositories from testing to unstable

then apt-get the 2.6.9 kernel and change the repositories back to testing(sarge)

I did installed that one, it got the same message, which goes the same for a custom compiled kernel

I don't suppose you have a 3ware sata-raid controller do you? If so, this may explain your problem.

I dont know about the 3ware, but I am using a WD Sata hd. Is there any solution to the problem?

The 3ware is a controller chipset. Do you know the chipset of the controller on your board?

You have a working install with a 2.4 kernel? Have you tried installing with a 2.6 kernel? When you boot from the CD type in linux26, that will install the base system with a 2.6 kernel, maybe that will give you some more useful errors if it does fail.

Is it the chipset from my mainboard? If so then I have
Chipset: Intel 865PE MCH
Intel ICH5R

Sorry, didn't see that in your signature. No, you don't have a 3ware controller then. Did you try any of the other suggestions?
