Debian USB issue

I have a linksys WUSB54Gv2 that I have been able to make work under Fedora Core 2 and I would like to use it on my KnoppMyth (Debian) box. I am running 2.4.25-chw. If I could get debian to see when I plug in the WUSB54Gv2, like just read it's bios chip, not load any drivers, I could do the rest. Is there some module I need to load to get Debian to examine the contents of the ROM chip onboard the external device?

I have already loaded hotplug.

Dmesg shows the following
hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-3, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x13b1/0xa) is not claimed by any active driver.

I am not sure what to do.

First step would be to find out what driver it worked with under FC2. Then do a modprobe <driver name> on the KnoppMyth to see if that driver recognizes the linksys and claims it.

If you get that far, then you can configure hotplug to load the driver automagically. Can't help you there though, I am at step 1 with a different device.

I assume there is some kernel driver loaded, but I haven't a clue as to what, and I don't my FC2 machine anymore. I just need it to recognize the firmware of the device, I can do the rest. ....

Try searching http://www.qbik.ch for the driver. I took a quick look and saw nothing matching the vendor code 0x13b1 or Linksys WUSB54. There is a WUSB11 there and following those threads indicate using linux-wlan or getting binary fro http://www.wireless.org.au/~jhecker/.../atmeldrv.html
