Debian USB install

Has anyone tried installing Debian (Lenny) on a USB flash drive before?

I just gave a shot at it using the Lenny CD and it seems that the installation complete (longer time than usual install to an IDE Hard Disk) but when I try to boot from the USB drive it does not even load the GRUB. I formatted the USB drive with ext3 and then with ext2 partition also but the same results.

My computer does support booting from USB drives.

Any help will be really appreciated. Also I have tried searching on Google but so far nothing has worked for me.

Thanks

The above explains how to make a USB installation disk. I am looking for something which explains how to install a regular Debian system on a USB drive with fully functional root filesystem - /dev/, /boo, /bin, /var, /etc,...... I really don't care what is the installation Media.

Also I think the above steps are dated because I think GRUB supports USB devices now. syslinux is quite old method.

Same thing. It explains how to host a LiveCD image.
