debian unstable + opengl = crash

I've installed the nvidia drivers through apt-get. 2D graphics are working fine (I even get the nvidia logo). But whenever I run an opengl program, the computer hangs and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink. I have to press the reset button on my computer to get out of this problem. glxgears works fine - for the most part. Normally I can run glxgears properly the first time I run it. But when I open it again, it crashes. The same goes for Tuxracer and any cedega opengl game. Tuxcart does not work at all. It crashes the computer immediately.

I'm running the default xfree. Should I try installing xorg?

Can you help me here? Thanks.

This is just a stab since the nvidia drivers directly from nvidia work for me with sid. But maybe you still have "Load DRI" in XF86Config?

I know I once forgot to re-uncomment it back out and noticed something along those lines and gl stuff started actin' all stupid.

I've done the basic stuff, like changing nv to nvidia, removing dri and glcore, etc. The packages I have are nvidia-kernel-common, nvidia-kernel-[my kernel no.], and nvidia-glx.

This is common problem with no official fix from nvidia - im sure its a driver problem but if you have ps2 mouse and keyboard then either get a usb adapter for them or try out usb mouse and keyboard. That solved it on 2 machines i have. You have to change both mouse and keyboard to usb. Good luck

Wow. I would never have thought to get a new keyboard. What in the world have nvidia done that causes X to crash just because I decided to have cereal for lunch?

I'll try it. I have a spare usb mouse and I use someone else's keyboard and see. Thanks for the help.

Didn't have this problem with suse.
