Debian testing netinstall unable to detect and mount CDROM
So I have recently DL debian testing netinstall and when I goes to detect CDROM it does not find any common drivers, even though its reading off of the CD. So then it asks me to manually pick a CD or load drivers off floppy. It is a DVD-rw but its generic. How do I get it to mount the CDROM drive.

I think the kernel you used cannot find your DVD-rw, and you can try a high version kernel or find a kernel thant can find your DVD-rw.
Hope to help. |
with the netinstall I do not think there is a way to use a different kernel and I do not want to use the vinilla 2.4 kernel.

You can try to type in "linux26" at the first prompt you get after booting from the netinstall CD. Then you'll get a 2.6 kernel, that might support your drive.

well the testing version of debian uses the 2.6 kernel by default.
But I solved it last night: You have to use the first installer release from the site.(not the daily builds on the bottom) then do a expert install by typing "expert" at the prompt. Which is a pain down the way because there are many options that I dont really know but its ok because they select the defaults for you. Any way when you you select to detect and mount your CD it will come up with a list of all the modules to load and you have to deselect ata-piix. Then when you go to detect your net hardware you must make sure that is reselected in the module page. |
