Debian Stretch: No vboxdrv with backported kernel

I've got an Asus VC66-C running Debian stretch. It uses a coffee lake i5 processor, so I have to run a backported kernel (4.14) to get the sound to work. This is a new computer for me, so I've never had virtualbox running on it. But, I installed it, and I don't remember any problems. It just doesn't have vboxdrv. I also did a complete remove and install of virtualbox. So maybe it's got something to do with the backported kernel? I'm not ready to upgrade to Buster yet, unless I have no choice to get virtualbox.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your thread title in a search engine.
On first glance, it looks like virtualbox (and maybe related packages) needs to be installed from backports, too.

D'oh! I should have realized that. I'll give it a try!

And sorry for taking so long to reply to this. I think linuxquestions must be on yahoo's spam list.

I purged the old one and reinstalled from the backport, but still no /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

Sorry for not checking back. I solved it by digging into the backport stuff, actually understanding it (on that one day, LOL) and compiling and installing something. Sorry, it's been weeks.
