When the GRUB menu appears after POST, does it give you the option to boot into "Rescue Mode" (or something similar)?

If it does, I suggest trying that and letting us know what happens.

If the GRUB menu does not appear, also let us know.

Also, check this thread: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ne-4175613405/

Could you edit the GRUB boot menu and add this kernel boot parameter:
Code:
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau

did not work . .
but removing “nomodeset” from that line enabled it to boot to desktop, but a popup reads
“running in software rendering mode”.
Can we fix that?

Depends on your graphics card. E.g. see this question. Please provide the output of
Code:
lspci -nn | grep VGA

Is this a fresh install, an upgrade or ??
Did it work before?
You may need to install the correct video driver for your card.
What kind of nouveau is installed currently?

If it's not a fresh install, could use another Linux(* e.g: live) to boot it and recover data and/or make changes?
