Unhappy Debian so slow...

Hello all, I'm using Debian unstable with Kernel 2.4.18, Gnome 2.4, XFCE 4, OpenOffice.org 1.1 , etc. My Debian runs on a computer like this :
1. Intel Pentium 4 2.2 GHz
2. 768 MBRAM DDR 333 + 768 Swap File
3. GeForce 4 Titanium 4200 128 MB

The problem is, sometimes when I'm listening to my MP3 using XMMS 1.2.8, then I opened another apps, my compie goes to stuck, it responds very slowly, and it gets me angry... :-D

Please help me.. I've never face this problems when using another distros... :-(. I love my debian, and I don't want to change it...

~apt-lovers...

Do you have DMA enabled on your hard drive if not install the program hdparm and use it set the dma. Also you may want to check if you have the module for your chipset on the motherboard loaded as well.

Very odd. Definitely a config issue - I run unstable on a P3-800 just fine, I never have less than 10 apps going at one time!

Do a bit of on DMA as suggested. It's all good, and Debian is well worth the effort!
