Debian setup (partman?) shrinks extended partition eliminating free space ?

Hi,

I was installing debian 5.0 and noticed strange behaviour.
I had my partitions prealocated - and left a lot of free space inside extended partition for future data partitions.
So used 'manual' option to partition. After I asociated partitions with mount points and wrote changes to disk I opened another virtual console and checked what happened using fdisk:
The end cylinder of my extended partition was changed ! It was changed that way that it matched end cylinder of last logical partition inside extended partition. Now all my free space is gone - because all free cylinders are 'behind' extended partition.

Is this a bug ?
What should I do to fix my extended partition ?

thanks
Vilius

Probably - check the Debian bugzilla (or whatever they use).

Any of the partitioning tools will allow you to delete and reallocate the extended - doesn't affect the underlying logicals so long as you get the start correct. The gparted liveCD will do it (most) easily for you.

Possible to recreate extended partition not affecting logical partitions using fdisk ?
