Debian server as a domain server?

Currently my network is a Workgroup from Windows consisting of 2 WinXP Home machines, and a Debian Server.

How do I use this Debian server to make this set-up a domain (instead of a workgroup)? Or is that all not really that necessary?

Basically I want all our mail to go to the Debain Server, then connect to that via Squirrel Web Mail or use Outlook (or rather Mozilla Thunderbird) and download our mail that way. I also want this server to host a website and FTP.

The whole set-up will be on a DSL service which is connected to a Router, and will have a Domain Name through a DSL Domain Forwarding service.

I have a feeling this has something to do with Samba??

not samba. you will likely want to download mails from the ISP by using fetchmail or something like that. locally use exim/sendmail/or smaller systems maybe including spam-/virusfilters.
then set up a pop3-server at the debian to get the fetched mail to the m$-machines.
to send mails from the local machines i use exim (deafult at debian) - i give 'e the mails per smtp - exim then sends them to the ISP.
