I changed my video settings, now when I boot instead of seeing the login screen, the screen goes blank. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 is teh command I entered. now how do I stop the boot and enter the command to change it back?

I guess you'll have to boot from a live CD and chroot to your sarge install, then run dpkg-reconfigure again.
I would like to say that it does boot to the mbr screen where I can select windows, or linux, i select linux and it goes through the boot, but when it comes to the login part, where I would enter my user name, thats when the screen goes black.
How do I chroot?

Thanks, I got it, I just put the CD in and hit Ctrl + Alt and F1, I entered the command dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 I was able to undo what I had done.
