Debian Sarge 3.1

I changed my video settings, now when I boot instead of seeing the login screen, the screen goes blank. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 is teh command I entered. now how do I stop the boot and enter the command to change it back?

I guess you'll have to boot from a live CD and chroot to your sarge install, then run dpkg-reconfigure again.

I would like to say that it does boot to the mbr screen where I can select windows, or linux, i select linux and it goes through the boot, but when it comes to the login part, where I would enter my user name, thats when the screen goes black.

How do I chroot?

mount /dev/hdxy /mnt/some_folder
chroot /mnt/some_folder

hdxy being your root partition.
Must be root to do all this.

No problem.
Just a nice-to-know: With Ctrl-Alt-F[1-7] you can cycle through your virtual consoles.
