Debian Manual/Guide for beginners...
I'd consider myself a debian guru-in-the-making, so I am not the one that needs some tutorials, manual, guides, walkthroughs, etc... I'm not perfect, but I know my way around what I need to do.
I am needing manuals and stuff for my brother. He is 19 years of age and has never used a linux machine before last night. I am converting him over because he is tired of spyware and virii on his winblows box. He is up to the idea and is willing to learn some things, to a certain extent (i think he has adult a.d.d.)... It is really hard for me to explain things to him because he has an attention span of about 5 to 10 minutes then he either zones out into a daydream or gets interested in something else. Since I can't sit there and go through this with him, I decided I would write him a decent tutorial that would relate to him, being a beginner and all. But... I don't have the time to write one out. I spent all day writing a good walk-thru for him to use for installing sarge on his box, and thats about it. So I think its time I find some beginner tutorials or manuals aimed at beginners for debian. I found some pdf documents from the debian.org site, but most of them are going to be too advanced for him at this time. I think the only ones he will understand is apt and dselect. Does anyone know where to get decent beginner tutorials?? |
there are a ton of documents on debian.org...check it out. i know there is at least one thorough manual there if not more.

I'd point out the Desktop Survival Guide & Debian FAQ Guide.

More guides:
(This one's very thorough) http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/re...erence.en.html (These are older but still useful) http://colt.projectgamma.com/debguide/en/ http://www.dsl.org/cookbook/cookbook_toc.html |
I built my debian router following www.aboutdebian.com.
It has some great tutorials, from setting up a basic desktop machine to compiling a custom kernel. Check it out. |
