Debian Live CD, with 'live-helper' package

I have been building my own Live CDs with the Debian package 'live-helper'. You can make your ISO with different degrees of complexity. What I need help with is:

How do I compile a custom kernel for a Live CD while still using the 'live-helper' build process?

I've been told this isnt really needed, but I have found a need for this. I'm not going to go into why, but any help on how would be greatly appreciated.

cd, debian, etch, lenny, live, sid
