Update you /etc/apt/sources.list so the Lenny repositories will be used instead of Etch.

He must install the Lenny versions of dpkg/apt-get/aptitude/debian-archive-keyring first. Then he can do the dist-upgrade, though it's recommended to do upgrade then dist-upgrade.
