Debian kernels: "warning: can't open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory"

Hi,

I'm trying different versions of Debian precompiled kernels, and I always get this same error at boot time. This applies to versions 2.4.18, 2.4.20, 2.4.22.
It's strange because I have the /etc/mtab file.

Any idea?

PS: I'm running Debian Sid.

Maybe you should post the dmesg lines surrounding this error.
Maybe that'll give someone a clue what to look for.
