Debian is near-unbreakable

I recently dist-upgraded Debian Etch after more than 500 packages were out of date. Many were even crucial Xorg related updates. Debian still worked fine except that Xorg broke a bit during the update (but it was due to a custom deb package which I had installed - Opera and I was able to remove it and continue with the update without any problems). I really continue to be impressed with Debian... if you stick to official repositories nobody should have any problems and it's the longest running distro on my system so far. Even broken packages are easily fixable by resorting to dpkg instead of apt-get...

Just wanted to express my thanks to the Debian developers for their tireless, continuous work with the system and keep it so simple for their users and the Debian community for being so actively involved in the project.

I second this.

I run Debian Stable (Sarge) on my web server, and I have not had any problems in the 6 months that it has been running. The only downtime has been due to power cuts. I dist-upgrade once a month, and have never once has anything been broken.

I definately think that Debian would have to be one of the best distros available.

Don't tell everybody. Then we'll be obligated to help people figure out how to do things like play MP3s, get their Broadcom wireless cards working, and try to install proprietary drivers. I like it better when I see those threads on the Suse forums.
