debian interfaces auto option not working

I'm trying to bring up an interface (eth1) manually- NOT at boot and left the interface name out of the auto options :-

auto lo eth0

and the rest of the configuration as normal. Whenever I boot the interface comes up. What do I have to do to prevent that?

The real problem is lots of errors saying Null event in orinoco_interupt. It doesn't occur when I'm connected to my AP so would only like to prevent the interface coming up at the moment.

Any suggestions would be good.

Thanks.

Chris

is it eth1 or eth0 you are having an issue with? Can we see your /etc/network/interfaces?

Thanks for responding llamack

/etc/network/interfaces looks like --

Code:
auto lo eth0
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.0.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
netork 192.168.0.0
Whenever the computer starts, interface eth1 is already up. I want to be able to prevent it coming up automatically. Better still, if you know what causes the messages "NULL event in orinoco interupt" constantly scrolling the screen that would be better. The messages don't appear when I am connected to my AP.
