Debian installation doesn't find DHCP

Hi all.

I'm trying Debian's floppy installation, which downloads packets from Internet

I have 166MHz Pentium S with 81 mB of SIMM memory
When I start the installation it detects my 3Com EtherLink XL PCI network card.

Then the problems begin: It can't find DHCP server
We have a router/firewall (TeleWell TW 640)
Windows, SuSe & Mandrake finds the DHCP successfully, but Debian doesn't.

I'd have the same problem before, but I want to try Debian :)

Thanks to everybody

i had that problem but i solved it like that

start installation with linux26
probably it couldn't find DHCP again but try again more then it still cant find restart the computer. continue until to find DHCP.

i know its sounds weird but it worked for me

I may sound stupid but, what is linux26 ?

zakkeyboorock 12-13-2005 12:01 AM

you'll type it when you are at boot screen

linux26 is a command you enter at the boot prompt during install, that tells the system you want it to installl using the 2.6 kernel instead of the stock 2.4 kernel.

I quess there is some problem with my network card. Windows, SuSe and Debian DETECTS it, but no-one of them doesn't find the network. I got to try another card.

Also be sure that it isn't the port on your router/switch/hub. These ports can die on you at times, so be aware of that. Granted, if you are plugging directly into a cable modem or something, this doesn't really apply.

Well, it was a problem of the network card. I tried my own computers network card and now it is working.

Thanks all!
